What Driftlit is
Every story, every chapter, zero paywalls. Reading on Driftlit costs nothing — not at chapter three, not ever.
The open library ↓Genre channels, chapter talk, writers who actually reply. Readers aren’t an audience here — they’re the other half of the conversation.
The community ↓Readers reward the writers they love, directly. 90% goes to the writer, every fee shown transparently.
The fair deal ↓Promise I — Free reading
Somewhere along the way, reading online turned into a toll road. Driftlit goes back to the beginning: you find a story, you open it, you read.
No locked chapters, no “wait 6 hours or pay.” If it’s published on Driftlit, all of it is yours to read.
“A knight saving a princess — but make it dragons.” AI-powered discovery that understands vibes, not just keywords.
Daily goals, streaks, monthly challenges — the pull of your favourite app, in service of actual books.
A clean, quiet reading view built for long sessions — on your phone at midnight or your laptop at lunch.
Promise II — Community
Books are better with people. On Driftlit, every genre has its own channel, every chapter has its conversation — and the writer is in the room, not behind glass.
Fantasy, romantasy, horror, poetry — each with its own room for recommendations, debates and 2am theories.
Comment on the chapter that wrecked you — the author will probably reply. No PR walls, no verified-only silence.
Monthly community challenges, shared reading goals, and badges you actually have to earn.
Promise III — Fair pay
“Stories should be free to read. Writers should be paid for writing. These are not contradictions — they’re the whole point.”
90% of every token’s value goes directly to the writer, after payment-processing fees (Stripe: 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction). Driftlit keeps 10% to keep the lights on. Every fee shown transparently, always.
Chapters, drafts, auto-save, version history, word-count goals and writing streaks.
Every token, every fee, every payout on one transparent dashboard.
Readers can request a personalised story — and pay you for it.
The Driftlit loop
Upload a finished book or write chapter by chapter. The moment it’s live, anyone in the world can read it. You keep 100% of your rights, always.
Stories get discussed in genre channels, chapters collect comments, writers reply. This is where books stop being products and start being conversations.
When a story matters to someone, they send tokens — always a choice, never a toll. 90% lands with the writer.
Token bundles are how readers say thank you — always optional, reading stays free either way.
Really. Every book, every chapter, free. Light advertising keeps the platform running, and later an optional ad-free subscription will exist. Rewarding writers with tokens is always your choice, never a requirement.
Every genre has its own channel, every chapter has its own comment thread, and writers are active participants. If Wattpad and Reddit had a very bookish child, it would look like this.
Readers buy token bundles and send them to writers. 90% of every token’s value goes to the writer — after payment-processing fees (Stripe: 2.9% + $0.30), shown transparently. Withdraw once you hit $15.
You do. 100%, forever. Publishing on Driftlit gives us permission to display your work — nothing more. Take it elsewhere, publish it traditionally, delete it. It’s yours.
The beta opens in 2026. Waitlist members get in first — writers especially early, so the shelves are full on opening day.
Original fiction and non-fiction in any genre — novels, novellas, serials, short story collections, poetry. If you wrote it and you have the rights to it, it belongs here.
Free reading, fair pay, and a seat at the table.
